La Veta Board Of Education

The La Veta School District RE-2 Board of Education is composed of 5 volunteer members, elected at-large. A president, vice president, and secretary are selected from the board membership by a majority of the voting members. Regularly scheduled Board of Education meetings are held in the board room at 200 East Stadium Drive, according to policy exhibit BEDA_E and are open to the public. PUBLIC PARTICIPATION AT MEETINGS La Veta BOE abides by all Colorado Open Records Laws. In that view, this is a meeting of the Board of Education in public. Audience input, knowledge, and discussion will be welcome, but limited to agenda items and as called upon by the BOE President.

Annalee Hickey

Board of Education President

Annalee Hickey was born and raised in the Cuchara Valley, where she developed a strong work ethic and love of community while working for her grandparents at the Dog Bar and Cuchara County Store. After graduating from the University of Colorado at Boulder, she returned home to work as a program director for Huerfano County Youth Services and as a Medical Social Worker for Sangre De Cristo Hospice.

Her connection to education runs deep—she served a term on the school board in her early twenties and is now in her fifth year of her current term as Board President. She is also a founding member and President of the La Veta School Foundation.

Annalee has been a real estate broker for thirteen years, combining her customer service skills with her love of the Cuchara Valley. She and her husband Russell have proudly owned and operated Bachman & Associates for nine years, working diligently to honor the legacy established by founder Eric Bachman. In 2021, she was recognized as the Spanish Peaks Broker of the Year. 

Annalee and Russell have two children, Lillian (14) and Johnny (8). The family enjoys exploring the backcountry and spending time at their beloved Cuchara Cabin, sharing a deep appreciation for the natural beauty and community spirit of the valley.

Director Carolyn Rominger was appointed to the Board of La Veta Public Schools in November, 2023 to fill a 2-year term. Carolyn and her husband, Kelly, moved with their two grandchildren to live fulltime in Cuchara, CO, in March 2021. Carolyn retired in January 2021, as Chief Financial Officer at Ana-Lab Corporation, an employee-owned environmental testing lab. Before that, she served in senior financial positions for Robroy Industries and Performance Wellhead and Frac, among others. Rominger earned a BBA in Accounting from University of Texas at Austin and was a certified public accountant. Carolyn’s parents were both school teachers and she has a foundation from and affinity for rural education.
